MediaTek launches Helio P90 SOC with 50% GPU improvement!

MediaTek has made a surprise launch on the Helio P90 SoC (FT6779V) prior the launch event at ShenZhen today. Let’s dig down into the improvements and difference made on the new generation P series SoC this time!

Instead of holding on solely on the A73 for performance, the Helio P90 bring dual A75 and 6x Cortex A55 in action. As a mid-range chip, MediaTek didn’t bring the A76 as featured on some high performance chipset such as Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980.

As for GPU, MediaTek no longer sticks to the conventional Mali GPU but instead uses IMG 9XM-HP8 from Imagination that brings 50% GPU performance in contrast to Helio P70 and Samsung Exynos 9610.

Performance is well documented on GFXBench Manhattan as the Snapdragon 660 on Xiaomi A2 offers 14fps average, Helio P60 via OPPO A3 for 11fps while Helio P90 is capable of reaching 30fps. Much word is said.

AI will be one of the biggest highlight on this chip with the dedicated AI processing core clocked at 624Mhz with processing speed at 1127GMAC in which certainly faster than Snapdragon 710 at 614 GMACs.

This chip will prevail on the consumer market earliest by 2019.
