In just a few hours ago, HUAWEI has officially launched the HUAWEI P40 series at Paris. The new HUAWEI P40 series inclusive of the P40 standard model, the P40 Pro and the P40 Pro Plus. Alongside HUAWEI also launches the Watch GT 2 and Watch GT 2e along with all new accessories such as GENTLE MONSTER new summer/spring series eyewear and HUAWEI Sound X.
Nevertheless, let’s have a quick dive into the HUAWEI P40 series model & its specification first.

The most distinguishable update on the P series is its design. For all the P40 series, HUAWEI has offered quad curve overflow display with almost no bezels. It also uses a 90Hz display which offers a smooth experience while the bezels were almost hidden offering a large 6.58″ view without hinders.
The HUAWEI P40 and P40 Pro is also offered in various colour such ice white, black, blush gold, silver frost and deep sea blue. The P40 Pro Plus is offered in black and white and its material is made up of ceramic, which comes with a higher production cost and different from the rest.
The HUAWEI P40 series offers up to 50MP+40MP+12MP & Depth of Field camera. The highest of its range even offers penta camera with the addition of the colour temperature sensor. All of the P40 camera were collaborated with LECIA which supports 3x optical zoom for P40, 5x optical zoom for P40 Pro and 10x optical zoom for P40 Pro Plus.
The HUAWEI P40 series has a 32MP front facing camera with the IR Depth dual front facing camera option.
HUAWEI also added gesture support such as swipe to scroll and grab to perform screen capture.
This is the camera specification of the HUAWEI P40.series at a glance. It is the first to bring multi reflection super periscopic telephoto lens whihc can reach up to 100x time hybrid zoom.
The camera uses 16 in 1 Pixel Fusion technology which merges pixel to create a high resolution and highly detailed photo. HUAWEI P40 series also uses the 50MP RYYB sensor which is sized at 1/1.28, larger than its competitor such as Galaxy S20 Ultra and Apple iPhone 11 Max.
The camera is also capable in reaching super high ISO up to 409600 which makes this able to capture highly detailed photos in low light environment. During the launch, HUAWEI also presents its capability where it capture moon through the telescopic lens in the dark.
Other functionality of this camera app includes removal of passerby and removal of reflection which removes glares when taking an image on the glass.
There is also 32MP front facing camera with depth sensing functionality.
As for its videography, the HUAWEI P40 series offers Dual View video. This works by using both lens and capture the video at the same time and comparing them side by side.
It also adds Direction Audio Zoom which highlights the sound emitted from the object which marks the audio much clearer.
The powerhouse of the HUAWEI P40 series is the Kirin 990 5G SoC. It has an inbuilt 5G chipset within the processor which saves spaces on the mainboard and allow reduced power consumption when compared against dedicated 5G modem aside of the processor, such as the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G models.
HUAWEI also states that it achieve a high AI performance with the Kirin 990 5G SoC which beats Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 by 3 times higher.
As one modern flagship, the P40 series also will be able to support the new WiFi 6 standard. It also adds eSIM & dual SIM functionality while allowing the addition of the NM card or the second SIM.
The Dual SIM & eSIM 5G allows dialing between both SIM while receiving the newest 5G technology for the phone.
The Wireless Reverse Charge from the Mate 30 is also preserved on the P40 series and it comes with industrial fastest wireless charging called 40W wireless supercharge. In just 30 minutes, the wireless supercharger can charge up P40 Pro+ & P40 Pro up to 2730mAh which is 330% and 82% faster than the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
As usual, the HUAWEI P40 series is expected to run on the newest EMUI 10.1 which is based on Android 10. There are some updates for this devices which offers new smoother icon animation based on natural motion, HUAWEI own set of themes and all new Always On Display.
The Always On Display is 3D rendered which allows objects to be appeared 3D when viewing the AOD objects.
The P40 series also comes with an all new voice assistant known as “Hey Celia”. This voice assistant can be used for setting alarm, schedule meeting, music playback and more.
HUAWEI also adds a feature similar to FaceTime which is known as MeeTime. MeeTime allow high quality video calls toward their partner and it can be used to share their screen too! Another good thing about Mee Time is that it can be used on device from other platform not just the P40 series.
Soon after the US ban, HUAWEI has been using HUAWEI Mobile Services to bring apps and features into their smartphone. The App Gallery is able to provide necessary apps for daily use there is HUAWEI Video & HUAWEI Music for your multimedia consumption.
HUAWEI also launches some peripherals & accessories to be used with HUAWEI P40 series (also known as companion) which offers several design cases, game cases and even snokerling case.
The P40 series is also available is gift box with unique design.
In the meantime, HUAWEI also launches the HUAWEI Sound X which allows Hi-Res music playback. This speaker can be integrated with HUAWEI Share too!
Lastly for its pricing, the HUAWEI P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus is priced at €799, €999 & €1399 respectively. Both P40 and P40 Pro is available from 7th April while the most premium model P40 Pro + is available from June 2020 onward.
