UK parliament to remove HUAWEI 5G infrastructure in 2027

It was just 6 months since the initial deployment of 5G infrastructure in UK by HUAWEI. UK government has recent decided to stop purchasing 5G devices from HUAWEI and to eliminate all 5G device in 2027.

Yesterday, British governent has formally announced that it would prohibit HUAWEI from joining the UK 5G network construction, and withdrew the HUAWEI decision to allow the participation of the construction in January this year. The British government also announced that by 2027, HUAWEI’s 5G equipment in the UK will be completely excluded. The ban was declared by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

According to a report by Reuters , the United States has been urging UK to change its decision to restrict HUAWEI’s participation in the UK’s 5G construction because of concerns about HUAWEI’s threat to information security. In addition, the current situation in China and Hong Kong has also rapidly deteriorated the relationship between China and the United Kingdom, allowing British Conservative Party MPs to counter HUAWEI in the construction of 5G.

Ed Brewster, a spokesperson for Huawei UK, said: “This disappointing decision is bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone. It threatens to move Britain into the digital slow lane, push up bills and deepen the digital divide.”
