Soon after the launch of Kirin 990 5G and Kirin 820 5G, HUAWEI has added the third chipset on the Kirin line-up which is the Kirin 985 SoC.
The Kirin 985 5G uses the 7nm process from TSMC which doesn’t requires external 5G modem to achieve 5G capability. The SoC can supports 2G/3G/4G and even 5G network under NSA/ SA mode. The 5G speed on the chipset can reach theoretical download speed at 1277Mbps and upload at 173Mbps. The download and upload speed is faster than Snapdragon 865 + Snapdragon X55 modem by 40% & 75%.
Kirin 985 also optimizes network speed in expressway and highway. When driving through a 90kmh expressway, it can reach 589Mbps down and 63Mbps up.
In contrast with Kirin 985, the high and low network load consumes lower amount of energy by 1.5 times compared to Snapdragon X55 and Snapdragon 865.
The processor is combined of 8 CPU cores with 1x big core, 3x secondary core and 4x tertiary core. It also uses Mali G77 GPU and NPU AI similar to Kirin 990 along with ISP 5.0 for image signal processing.
HUAWEI official also stated that the Kirin 985 can achieve great efficiency for web browsing, dual SIM experience, lower latency and highway network speed under 5G environment.
It is now available on the HONOR 30 series including the HONOR 30, HONOR 30 Pro and Pro Plus.
